Tour description
The Munich–Venice Cycle Route combines relaxed cycling with the thrill of crossing the Alps, guiding you from Germany through Austria and all the way to northern Italy. Following well-marked cycle paths, quiet side roads, and former railway lines, you’ll discover three countries, each with its own landscapes, traditions, and cultural highlights.
Your journey begins in the Bavarian capital, Munich, continues past crystal-clear lakes and along Tyrolean river valleys, and then enters the spectacular Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site. From there, the route leads through charming Veneto towns such as Treviso before reaching the gateway to the iconic city of Venice, with its palaces, canals, and timeless atmosphere.
ROUTE CHARACTERISTICS
The Munich–Venice tour offers a beautiful mix of terrain.
The most challenging section — crossing the Alps between Innsbruck and the Brenner Pass — can easily be shortened by train or bus. From Dobbiaco to Cortina d’Ampezzo, you ride gently downhill along a scenic path built on an old railway line. The final stages of the tour are pleasantly flat, gradually descending toward the Adriatic Sea.
This route is suitable for active travellers and for children aged 16+.
Arrival: every Friday and Saturday from 24/04/2026 to 10/10/2026. Minimum number of participants per date: 2 people*
Starting point: Munich (exception for Oktoberfest: from 18/09/2026 to 05/10/2026 no arrival in Munich is pos-
sible. Alternatively, the tour starts in Bad Tölz. Train tickets to get to the starting point in Munich are included in the tour price during this time)
Season 1: arrival dates from 24/04/2026 to 30/06/2026 (incl.) and 01/09/2026 to 10/10/2026 (incl.)

Itinerary
Arrival in Munich
Show dayFollow the River Isar southwards, quickly leaving the city behind as you enter untouched natural landscapes and dense forests. The route leads past abbeys, traditional Bavarian villages and through the Isar wetlands before reaching the picturesque old town of Bad Tölz. Overnight stay in Bad Tölz.
Distance: 68-77 km
Continue cycling along the Isar to Lake Sylvenstein. Through the Karwendel Nature Park, you cross the German–Austrian border and arrive at Lake Achensee, an impressive mountain lake. A scenic boat trip is recommended before descending into the Inn Valley. Overnight stay in Maurach, Jenbach, or Schwaz.
Distance: 96 km or 88 + train, ticket included
Cycle along the Inn Cycle Path toward Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital. Visit the historic centre with the famous Golden Roof, or enjoy an excursion to Mount Isel with its ski jump and the Tirol Panorama. The challenging ascent from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass—the border between Austria and Italy and an important cultural watershed—is covered by transfer (train or bus). From Brenner, cycle along the former railway line through Vipiteno and Fortezza to Mühlbach / Brixen. Overnight stay in the area.
Distance: 50-55 km
A well-developed cycle path leads through Val Pusteria, passing the historic Mühlbacher Klause, once an ancient gate between the Roman provinces of Raetia and Noricum. Ride along the River Rienz to Brunico, where several museum visits are worthwhile: the South Tyrolean Folklore Museum in Teodone or one of the Messner Mountain Museums. Continue through the valley to Villabassa or Dobbiaco. A complimentary bike check-up is available at our shop in Dobbiaco (for rental bikes).
Distance: 60-65 km
Follow the former Dolomites railway trail past Lake Toblacher See and the World War I cemetery. Shortly after, enjoy an unforgettable view of the famous Three Peaks before reaching Lake Dürrensee. A short climb brings you to the border between the provinces of Bolzano and Belluno. From here, the route leads gently downhill toward Cortina d’Ampezzo, surrounded by stunning Dolomite scenery. Continue your descent through the Boite Valley—with Sorapis to your left and Cinque Torri to your right—before reaching Pieve di Cadore. Overnight stay in Pieve di Cadore.
Cycle along the new bike path to Longarone, a town rebuilt after the tragic 1963 Vajont Dam disaster. Continue through the foothills to Conegliano, a charming town famous for its wine culture.
Leave the Alps behind as you cycle toward Treviso, a city of canals, fashion, and elegant streets. Along the way, admire numerous villas designed by Andrea Palladio, masterpieces of Renaissance architecture built under the influence of the Venetian Republic. Continue along the River Sile to the Venice mainland (Mestre), the perfect starting point for exploring the “Serenissima.”

Accommodation is one of the most important parts of each trip that strongly influences the final look of it. We make our best to offer you the best possible accommodation in the prefered category. The hotels we offer are either comfortable small hotels or quite guesthouses both in 3* quality, all of it rather small and with personality than big chain. All the tours have accommodation in or near the town/village centres so you can spend the afternoon and evening after biking exploring the town itself or simply enjoy the peace of the place.
